Two PC Softball Players Earn All-BIG EAST Conference Honors
May 9, 2007 SOUTH BEND, Ind. - It was announced on Wednesday, May 9 at the BIG EAST Softball Tournament Banquet in South Bend, Ind., that two Providence College players earned All-BIG EAST honors. Senior catcher Rachel Bartholomew (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) was named to the first team, while sophomore outfielder Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.) garnered third team honors. It marks the third time that Bartholomew has earned All-BIG EAST honors and the second time she has been named to the first team. For Sheehy, it marks the first time that she has garnered All-BIG EAST accolades. Bartholomew, who also garnered All-BIG EAST First Team honors in 2004, becomes the fourth Friar and the second catcher to be named to the All-BIG EAST First Team twice. Named to the All-BIG EAST Third Team in 2006, Bartholomew also becomes the second Friar to attain three All-BIG EAST accolades. In 20 BIG EAST Conference games this season, Bartholomew posted a .452 batting average, 13 runs, 28 hits, six doubles, four home runs and 13 RBIs. She finished among the top four in the league in batting average, slugging percentage (.742), on-base percentage (.521), hits, doubles and total bases (46). Bartholomew set numerous Providence College records in her four years. She is the school's all-time leader in home runs (39), RBIs (152), hits (214) and batting average (.338).
Sheehy batted .365 with one triple and five RBIs in 20 conference games. She finished second on the team in batting average and on-base percentage (.500). In addition, Sheehy led the team and finished third in the BIG EAST with 12 walks.
