Softball Travels To Villanova For Final Regular Season Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College Softball team will travel down to Villanova, Pa. to take on the Villanova University Wildcats for its final regular season series on May 6-7. The Friars will play a doubleheader against the Wildcats on Saturday, May 6 at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. The series will end with a BIG EAST Digital Network game on Sunday, May at 12:00 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Providence College Softball team has a record of 21-24 this season with a record of 8-10 in the BIG EAST. The Friars played two games leading up to their series against Villanova. Providence defeated Holy Cross, 8-0, and lost to Boston College, 5-0, on May 2 and May 3, respectively.

Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) has been the leader of the Providence offense. Lundstrom has had a career season as she leads the team with a .363 batting average, 43 runs scored, 10 home runs and 34 RBI. Lundstrom recently moved into third in career home runs for Providence with 24. In the BIG EAST, Lundstrom ranks third in on base percentage (.544), fifth in runs scored (16), seventh in slugging percentage (.651) and seventh in home runs (4).

Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) has also been a vital part of the Providence offense. Overall, Lee is batting .361 while also leading the team in hits (60) and doubles (14). In the BIG EAST, Lee ranks third in runs scored with 17.

Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) has been a force in the BIG EAST for Providence. Rurka ranks ninth in the BIG EAST in batting average (.385), second in on base percentage (.556), and sixth in RBI (18).

Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla). has been the Ace of the Providence pitching staff this season.  Ramirez has started 27 games this season and accumulated 21 complete games on her way to a 13-13 record. In 164.2 innings pitched, Ramirez has struck out 107 batters. In the BIG EAST, Ramirez ranks first in games started (11), third in innings pitched (61.1) and fifth in strike outs (44).

SCOUTING VILLANOVA: The Villanova Wildcats have a record of 34-17 this season. The Wildcats are currently second in the BIG EAST with a record of 12-6.

The Villanova offense is being led by Nikki Alden and Brittany Husk. Alden leads the Wildcats in batting average (.397), triples (3), home runs (9), RBI (41) and slugging percentage (.695) while also accumulating 52 hits.

Husk is currently leading Villanova in runs (36) and hits (54) while also having a batting average of .344, 14 doubles and 20 RBI.

The main pitcher for Villanova is Brette Lawrence. In 28 starts, Lawrence has a record of 24-8 with a 2.32 ERA. Lawrence has also pitched 22 complete games and 196.1 innings pitched while allowing 184 hits and striking out 165.
