PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College softball team (22-25-1, 8-11 BIG EAST) will travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on the on the Syracuse Orange in the final weekend of the regular season. The Friars will play twice on Saturday, May 4 with the first game slated to begin at noon. The series will conclude with a noon game on Sunday, May 5.
Providence and Syracuse are among eight teams vying for the final four slots in the BIG EAST Softball Championship, which will be played Thursday, May 9 through Saturday, May 11 in Tampa, Fla.
Earlier this week, the Friars split a doubleheader with Pittsburgh, taking the first game 6-5 but falling 4-2 in the second game of the day. The Friars have picked up a victory in six of their last eight conference games and have won 10 of their last 12 overall. Senior Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) picked up the win against Pittsburgh for the Friars allowing four earned runs on eight hits while striking out four batters.
SCOUTING SYRACUSE (21-27, 8-11 BIG EAST): The Syracuse Orange will close their five-game home stand with three games versus the Friars. On Tuesday, April 30 the Orange split a doubleheader with Cornell. Syracuse has won its last three conference games, including a two-game sweep of Rutgers University, 6-0 and 11-3 on Wednesday, April 24.
