Providence To Host CCSU For Final Non-Conference Matchup

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team hosts the Central Connecticut State University Blue Devils for its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday, May 1. The Friars game against the Blue Devils is set to start at 3:00 p.m. at Glay Field.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Providence College softball team has a record of 12-29 on the season and a 6-11 record in BIG EAST play. The Friars are coming off of a weekend series against St. John’s that saw the team go 1-2.

Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) paces that Friars’ offensive efforts. She leads the team with a .337 batting average, 10 doubles and has two homeruns and 17 RBI on the season. Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) is the only other Friar batting above .300, as Lee has an average of .316 and a team leading 43 hits. Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) has been the power bat for Providence. She leads the team in triples (two), homeruns (nine) and RBI (30), while also batting .290.

Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) has been the ace of the Providence pitching staff this season. Ramirez has appeared on the mound 23 times this season and has accumulated a 3.59 ERA to go along with her6-13 record and 63 strikeouts.

SCOUTING CCSU:
The Central Connecticut Blue Demons have a record of 18-26 on the season with a 9-5 record against NEC opponents.

Brittany Camara has been the top batter for the Blue Demons. Camara leads the team in batting average (.318), hits (47), triples (three) and is tied for the team with in RBI (24). Sydney Bolan has also been a force for CCSU, as she is batting .301 with 40 hits, five doubles and six homeruns.

The Blue Demons rely on Emily Sargent and Peyton Silverman to pitch. Sargent has started 20 games for CCSU and has a record of 8-11 and an ERA of 3.18 on the season. Silverman leads the team in ERA with 2.37 and has a 7-8 record in 17 appearances this season.

ON DECK:
Providence hosts the DePaul Blue Demons for its final BIG EAST series on May 5-6. The Friars will play a doubleheader against the Blue Demons on Saturday, May 5 with games at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m., before finishing off the series with a single game on Sunday, May 6, starting at 11:00 a.m. Providence’s Sunday game will also act as the Friars’ Senior Day.
