Senior outfielder Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) was named the BIG EAST Softball Player of the Week it was announced by the League office on Monday afternoon (April 22).
Bryant led the Friars to a 5-1 week, including two wins over BIG EAST foe Georgetown. Bryant paced the offense with 12 hits, eight RBI, two doubles and three home runs on the week. She batted .667 for the week while also drawing three walks and slugging 1.278.
Against the Hoyas, Bryant led the Friars with seven hits in the series. She finished with three homeruns, one double, six RBI and three runs.
Bryant leads the Friars with a .381 batting average and 45 hits and is tied for the team lead with six home runs. She is the first Providence player to earn the honor since Rachel Bartholomew ’07 was named the BIG EAST Player of the Week on April 25, 2006.
After midweek non-conference games versus Bryant University (April 23) and Fairfield (April 24), Bryant and the Friars will play host to Villanova on Saturday, April 27 and Sunday, April 28 in BIG EAST action. Entering the stretch run for places in the BIG EAST Championship field, Providence has League series remaining against Villanova, Pittsburgh and Syracuse.
