Providence Softball To Host Crosstown Rival Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team will take on crosstown rival, Brown University, on Tuesday, April 17. The game was originally scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m. but has been pushed back so that first pitch will be at 4:30 p.m.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Providence College Friars have a record of 9-24 on the season and have a record of 4-7 in BIG EAST play.

Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) currently leads the team with a .321 batting average, 26 hits, eight doubles, and 12 RBI. Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) and Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) have both played important roles for the Friars. Lee has a batting average of .304 with 34 hits on the season. Veler has been the power bat for the Friars, as she has recorded six doubles, two triples, six home runs and 23 RBI.

Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) have split pitching duties for Providence this season. Ramirez has a record of 5-9, an ERA of 3.39 and has struck out 47 batters. Trinidad has a record of 3-9 with a 2.92 ERA.

SCOUTING BROWN:
The Brown University Bears have a record of 8-21 on the season and have a 2-10 record in Ivy League play.

Meghan Wimmer has been the Bears’ most effective offensive weapon. Wimmer leads the team in batting average (.458), hits (33), home runs (seven) and RBI (18). Cat Seitz has also played a large role offensively for Brown as she has a batting average of .346, with 28 hits, nine doubles and 13 RBI.

Wimmer and Katie Orona have started the most games for Brown. In 11 starts, Wimmer has a 3-7 record with a 6.68 ERA. Orona has a 1-7 record with a 7.26 ERA.

ON DECK:
Providence travels out to Indianapolis, Ind. to play a three-game series against the Butler Bulldogs on April 21-22.

Softball Defeats Brown In Five Innings
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College Softball team played Brown University on Wednesday, April 5, at Brown University. The Friars defeated Brown 10-0 in five innings. With the win, Providence improves to 10-18 on the season while Brown moves to 9-17.
