PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced on Monday, April 16 that Providence College sophomore Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) was named BIG EAST Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. It marks the first time in two years that a Friar has earned the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors as Nicole Bartholomew earned the accolade on March 10, 2005. In addition, freshman Christy Becker (San Diego, Calif.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

Maccio posted a 2-0 record, a 0.78 earned run average and five strikeouts in two appearances last week. Against Fairfield on Tuesday, April 10, Maccio pitched four innings and allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out three batters. She also was impressive in a 9-0 win over Notre Dame on Saturday, April 14. She pitched five innings, allowed just three hits and struck out two batters to improve to 4-1 on the season.

Becker batted 8-for-11 (.727) with one home run, four RBIs and four runs scored. She recorded two hits, including a three-run home run in a 9-0 win over Notre Dame on April 14. She also batted 5-for-6 in a doubleheader sweep against Fairfield on April 10.

The Friars (15-15 overall), who posted a 3-1 record last week, are back in action on Wednesday, April 18 when they host the University of Rhode Island in a doubleheader, beginning at 2:30 p.m.
