The Providence College softball team (12-23-1, 2-9 BIG EAST) are set to play its annual PINK OUT game on Tuesday, April 16. The Friars will host the Rhode Island Rams for a nonconference doubleheader. The Friars will look to snap their five-game losing streak against the Rams. The first game will begin at 2:30 p.m. The event, which is sponsored by Providence College and the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Foundation, was established to promote breast cancer awareness.

"We have teamed up once again with the Gloria Gemma foundation to bring awareness to the fight against Breast Cancer,” said Head Coach Kerri Jacklets. “We can all think of someone we know or have met who has been effected by this disease. Softball is our vehicle to do our part and to honor all of those who have endured the battle.”
Providence posted a 0-3 record at USF this past weekend. Junior Marie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) and freshman Kiara Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) each recorded two hits against the Bulls. Flego tallied both hits in the team’s 5-0 loss on Sunday, April 14, while Baldassari halted USF pitcher Sara Nevins’ no-hitter bid with a bunt in the sixth inning of game one on Saturday, April 13 (L, 10-0) and she also had one hit on Sunday.
In their last time series, URI played two games against Charlotte on April 12-13. The Rams were defeated in each game, 5-3 and 12-3 in five innings. In their first loss on Friday, URI gave up an unearned run in the fifth inning that sealed the win for the 49ers. In the second game of the series, Charlotte was able to draw seven walks off URI pitcher Sam Bedore in the first two innings. All seven batters scored.
The doubleheader between Providence and Rhode Island will be aired via tape delay on COX Sports on OSN on Thursday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m., Saturday, April 20 at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, April 21 at 4:00 p.m.
