The Providence College softball team (4-22) will host non-conference opponent Fairfield (13-16) on Tuesday, April 14 in a single game. The first pitch is set for 3:00 p.m.
Sophomore Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) leads Providence with 26 hits on the year. Junior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) follows with 21 hits. Freshman McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) leads the team with 12 RBI and five home runs. Junior Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas) has also tallied home runs, with three on the year. Sophomore Danielle Deraney (Shrewsbury, Mass.) leads the team in batting average at .381.
Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) has made 18 pitching appearances for 96.2 innings and a 4.38 ERA. She has fanned 47 batters on the year. Sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) has also made pitching appearances, with 41 strikeouts in 58.0 innings pitched.
The Stags have won their last four games, including two six-inning games and one five-inning game. Fairfield is led by Kristen Filicia who has tallied a team-best 33 hits. Her sister, Lauren Filicia, leads the team in RBI with 17 on the season. Rae Ball leads the Stags pitching staff with a 3.30 ERA in 17 appearances. Rebecca Trott leads the team with 52 strikeouts in 16 appearances.
Each team played Connecticut this season with PC falling, 4-3, and Fairfield losing, 5-3.
After the midweek game the Friars remain home to face BIG EAST opponent Villanova on Thursday, April 17 (double header) and Saturday, April 19 (single game). The double header is set to start at noon and 2:30 p.m. while the single game will begin at 11:00 a.m.
