PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (13-23, 4-6 BIG EAST) will host the Seton Hall Pirates (18-21, 0-8 BIG EAST) this weekend in a three-game series. The teams will play twice on Saturday, April 14 beginning at 12:00 p.m. and complete the series on Sunday, April 15 at 1:00p.m.
The Friars are looking to bounce back after a pair of 5-0 losses against No. 18 USF on Wednesday, April 11. Senior Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) had two hits for the Friars while freshman Lauren Paiva (Middletown, R.I.) and Juliana Thibodeau (Cohoes, N.Y.) each stole a base. Senior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) gave up only two hits over six innings of work in the first game of the set. Junior Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) leads the Friars this season with 18 RBIs, and a .336 batting average and has three home runs on the season, while Grosso leads the pitching staff with seven wins, 56 strike outs, and 104.2 innings pitched.
Seton Hall has had a week off following their weekend sweep at the hands of Syracuse. The Pirates fell 2-0, 5-3 (nine innings), and 12-1 in five innings. The Pirates are led by senior Kristen Kaelin with five home runs, 32 RBIs, and a .355 batting average. Sophomore Jen Metzger leads the Pirates in the circle with five wins and a 2.30 ERA. The last time these teams met was in 2010 in South Orange, N.J., where the Friars swept the Pirates.
