Providence Softball Ready For Midweek Games

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team is set to play three midweek nonconference games. The Friars will play a doubleheader at Bryant on Wednesday, April 11 at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. before hosting Harvard at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 12.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars have a record of 7-21 to this point in the season. In BIG EAST play, they are 4-4 and are currently in fourth place in the standings. They are coming off of a 1-2 weekend against Seton Hall.

Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) has been on an offensive tear lately. In the ten games, Rurka is batting .433 with 13 hits, five doubles, and eight RBI while also posting a .700 slugging percentage.

Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) and Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) have been essential parts of the offense as well. Portillo has a .278 batting average on the season with 22 hits and nine RBI. Lee leads the team in hits with 25 and also has a batting average of .272.

Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) have been split starting pitching duties for the Friars this season. Ramirez leads the team with a 4-8 record, 3.25 ERA and 39 strikeouts. Meanwhile, Trinidad has posted a 2-8 record with a 3.07 ERA.

SCOUTING BRYANT:
The Bryant Bulldogs has a record of 9-20 on the season and is 3-3 in conference play.

Morgan Powell leads the team with a .339 batting average, while also tallying 21 hits. Rachel Monroe has a batting average of .324 with 22 hits, three doubles, three homeruns and, a team leading, 17 RBI.

Gabrielle Ermish has started 12 games as pitcher for Bryant. She has a 2-8 record on the season with a 5.58 ERA.  Sarah McKeveny has started the second most games for the Bulldogs (10) and has a record of 2-7 with a 6.51 ERA and 39 strikeouts.

SCOUTING HARVARD:
The Harvard Crimson have a record of 15-12 and is 8-4 in conference play. The Friars and Crimson last played each other at the LMU Tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 10. Harvard topped Providence 6-5.

Maddy Kaplan leads the Crimson with a .427 batting average, with 35 hits, seven doubles and 23 RBI. Rhianna Rich posts an average of .376 while also having scored 32 runs, tallied 35 hits, five doubles, four triples, two homeruns and 20 RBI.

Kathleen Duncan has been the ace of the Crimson pitching staff. Duncan has a record of 10-7 with a 2.99 ERA, six complete games, and 55 strikeouts.

ON DECK:
Providence returns to BIG EAST action with a weekend series against the Villanova Wildcats on April 14-15.
