PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College softball team (10-17-1, 0-3 BIG EAST) will travel to play the Connecticut Huskies (14-13, 1-2 BIG EAST) in their BIG EAST home opener this weekend for a three-game series. The teams will face-off in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 6 beginning at noon and close the series on Sunday, April 7 with the final game being played at 2:00 p.m.
Providence is coming off a 5-3 victory over the Harvard Crimson on Tuesday, April 2. Against Harvard, Senior Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) pitched a complete game and improving to a 3-2 record. Clauss also recorded a season-high eight strikeouts. Senior Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Fla.) led the Friars with two hits and one RBI. Seven Friars recorded hits in the win.
The Huskies are coming off an 11-8 road win over Boston University on Wednesday, April 3. Connecticut was led by Lauren Duggan who went 4-for-4 at the plate and Marissa Guches who was 4-for-5 with each registering four RBI apiece.
The Friars picked up a 2-1 non-conference win against UConn on February 23 at the FAU “Strike-Out Cancer” Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. With the game tied at one apiece, Sophomore Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Conn.) hit a go-ahead homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Friars the victory. The two teams did not meet last season.
