Bartholomew Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College freshman softball pitcher Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) was named the BIG EAST Conference's Pitcher of the Week on Monday, April 1st.

Bartholomew earned the honor for the second time this season, after posting a 2-0 week with a perfect game and a one-hitter. The rookie right-hander pitcher her first career perfect game on Thursday, March 28 at Quinnipiac University in a 5-0 win. Bartholomew faced 21 batters and did not allow a Quinnipiac player to reach base, retiring 11 on strikeouts, eight on ground-ball outs and two on fly-ball outs. Bartholomew, who pitched a no-hitter on March 16 at Winthrop University, became the first PC pitcher to throw both a no-hitter and a perfect game in her career. Bartholomew struck out 11 and allowed just a third-inning single on Saturday, March 30 in a 1-0 victory over Boston College.

On the season, Bartholomew has posted a 6-7 record, 3.81 ERA, 75.2 innings pitched and 87 strikeouts.

The Friars return to action on Wednesday, April 3rd when they host Yale University in a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader.
