PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College softball (1-15, 0-3) team will host DePaul (18-8, 2-0) in its first BIG EAST home series of the season, on Saturday March 29 and Sunday, March 30. Saturday's games will start at 12:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. while Sunday's game will begin at 11:00 a.m. DePaul was picked as the favorite to win the BIG EAST crown in the preseason.
Sophomore Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) leads Providence with 16 hits on the year. Junior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) and freshman McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) both follow with 14 hits. Miller leads the team with eight RBI and four home runs. Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) has made 10 pitching appearances in 54.1 innings. She has fanned 29 batters on the year. Sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) has also made pitching appearances, with 40.1 innings pitched and 27 strikeouts.
DePaul is led by Mary Connolly who has 27 hits on the year and a team-best 21 RBI. She also has a team-high seven home runs. Kirsten Verdun leads the pitching staff with a 12-5 record and 2.11 ERA in 112.2 innings pitched. She has recorded 139 strikeouts on the year while yielding 92 hits in her 20 appearances.
After the weekend series the Friars travel to Kingston, R.I. to face in-state rival Rhode Island on Wednesday, March 2. The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
