PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team is set to begin BIG EAST conference play on Wednesday, March 28 as the Friars host the St. John's Red Storm in an afternoon doubleheader slated to begin at 1:00 p.m.

The Friars opened their home schedule last weekend, splitting a doubleheader with Fairfield. The Friars fell in the first game, 5-3, but came back to take the second game by a 4-2 margin. In the first game, freshman Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) hit a two-run home run, the first home run of her career. In game two, Dederick registered two hits and collected two RBIs while sophomore Marie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.) and senior Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) knocked in the other two runs.

Junior Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) picked up her third win of the season after allowing only two runs on six hits over seven innings. It was the fifth complete game of the year for Clauss who struck out a season-high nine batters.

Last season the Friars took two out of three at St. John's en route to an eighth place finish in the BIG EAST with a 7-13 conference record.
