Softball Opens BIG EAST Conference Play At Pittsburgh on Saturday

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team will open its BIG EAST Conference schedule on Saturday, March 27 with a doubleheader at the University of Pittsburgh beginning at noon.

    The Friars (6-13) have not played since March 14 when they were defeated by Longwood in the final game of the Winthrop/Adidas Classic in Rock Hill, S.C. Senior Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) leads the team with a .298 batting average and is second with 11 runs and eight stolen bases. Sophomore Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) ranks second on the team with a .281 batting average and is the leader with 13 RBIs, while classmate Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) is tops on the squad in runs scored (12), extra-base hits (five) and stolen bases (nine). In the pitcher's circle, sophomore Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) has posted a 3-2 record and a team best 2.45 earned run average.

    The Panthers (13-11) swept a doubleheader (6-3, 5-1) against Youngstown State on Wednesday, March 24 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Ashley Amistade leads the team with a .377 batting average, 18 runs, 29 hits and two triples, while Holly Stevens has a team best five home runs and 15 RBIs. Cory Berliner has 6-4 record in the pitcher's circle for Pitt. In addition, she has a 1.87 ERA, eight complete games and one save in 15 appearances.

    Last season, the Friars and Panthers split a doubleheader in Providence with PC winning the first game (2-1) and Pitt taking the second game (8-4).
