Providence Softball Defeated By LMU And FGCU On Day One Of LMU Tournament

LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The Providence College softball team played two games on the first day of the LMU Tournament in Los Angeles, Calif. on Thursday, March 8. The Friars lost games against LMU and FGCU to drop to 3-13 on the season.

LMU GAME NOTES:
-Providence dropped the game against LMU, 4-1.
-Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) hit her first home run of the season in the sixth inning to give Providence their first run of the game.
-Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) got the start for Providence. McCune pitched 5.1 innings, allowing four runs. Her record drops to 1-2 on the season.
-Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) pitched the final .2 innings to close out the game for Providence, allowing no hits and no runs.

FGCU GAME NOTES:
-The Friars lost a heartbreaker against FGCU, 3-2.
-Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) led the offensive efforts for Providence, tallying two hits, one RBI and one run scored.
-Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.), Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.), McCune and Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.) each recorded hits as well.
-Veler and Compton’s hits were both doubles.
-Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched a complete game in the loss, moving to 1-6 on the season. Ramirez allowed three runs and struck out five in seven innings of work.

ON DECK:
The Friars play a single game against Florida Gulf Coast on the second day of the LMU Tournament on Friday, March 9. Providence’s rematch against the Eagles is set to start at 11:00 a.m. ET.
