Softball To End Spring Break Trip At LMU Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team is set to conclude its spring break trip with the LMU Tournament, hosted by Loyola Marymount University, in Los Angeles, Calif. on March 8-10. The Friars will face host LMU, Harvard, Southern Utah University and Florida Gulf Coast University at the tournament.

TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE:
Providence vs. LMU: Thursday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. ET
Providence vs. FGCU: Thursday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET
Providence vs. FGCU: Friday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m. ET
Providence vs. Harvard: Saturday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m. ET
Providence vs. SUU: Saturday, March 10 at 1:30 p.m. ET

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars have a record of 3-11 to this point of the season. Providence played a double header against CSUN on Tuesday, March 6, where they dropped both games.

Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) and Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) are the leaders of the Friar offense. Portillo is currently batting .278 with 10 hits and five RBI on the season. Lee leads the team in hits with 12 and is batting .273.

Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) and Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) have split starting duties for the Friars. Both have records of 1-5 on the season. Trinidad posts a 2.75 ERA with and 14 strikeouts on the year. Ramirez has an ERA of 3.27 with 17 strikeouts.

SCOUTING LMU:
The LMU Lions have a record of 9-10-1 this season.

Irma Sanchez has a batting average of .321 with 16 hits, six doubles and six RBI in 14 games played this season. Andrea Gonzalez has been another important part of the Lions’ offense, as she has a .321 batting average with 17 hits and two home runs in 20 games played.

Hannah Bandimere has been the ace of the staff, having a 1.77 ERA, a 6-3 record, and 40 strikeouts in 63.1 innings pitched.

SCOUTING HARVARD:
The Harvard Crimson have a 3-6 record to start the season.

Megan Lantz leads the Crimson with a .333 batting average, 10 hits and six RBI. Rhianna Rich has tallied 11 hits and seven runs scored as well.

The Harvard pitching staff has combined for a 4.53 ERA and 31 strikeouts this season.

SCOUTING SUU:
The Southern Utah Thunderbirds have started the season with a 2-16 record.

Taylei Williams leads the SUU offense with a .385 batting average, 20 hits, four doubles, four homeruns and 13 RBI. Madison Tuft has also been essential as she is batting .294 with 10 hits.

Kalei Watkins leads the Thunderbird pitching staff with a 6.18 ERA, a 1-2 record and nine strikeouts.

SCOUTING FCSU:
The Florida Gulf Coast Eagles are 14-4 to begin the season.

Racquel Fournet leads the Eagles with a .352 batting average, 19 hits, three doubles and 10 RBI. Brittany McGuire has also played an important role for Florida Gulf Coast as she has a .298 average with 14 hits.

Marissa Mesiemore leads the pitching staff for FGCU. Mesiemore has a 1.55 ERA, a 6-1 record and 20 strikeouts in 10 appearances.

The Friars open up their home schedule with a double header against Hartford on Saturday, March 17.

Softball Defeats Harvard, 8-3
CAMBRIDGE, MASS. – The Providence College Softball team played against the Harvard University Crimson on April 18. The Friars defeated the Crimson 8-3 to improve to 13-22 (3-6) on the season. Harvard now has a record of 15-16 (6-6) this season.
