Softball Travels To Florida For Weekend Tournament

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team hits the road again as it travels to Boca Raton, Fla. to play in the FAU Embassy Suites Classic. The Friars will play two games on each day of the tournament. On Friday, March 9 the Friars will take on Western Kentucky and Minnesota and play Boston College and Florida Atlantic the following day on Saturday, March 10. The Friars will close the tournament on Sunday, March 11 when they play Bethune Cookman and Florida Atlantic.

    Following the tournament, the Friars will stay in Florida to take on Bethune Cookman in a Wednesday, March 14 doubleheader at Daytona Beach.

    The Friars last played in the Towson Series in Towson, Md. where they went 1-2. The Friars took their final game of the tournament, 8-0, in five innings over the Fairfield Stags. In that game, senior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) pitched five shutout innings en route to her first victory of the season. Junior Jessie Bryant(Marlborough, Mass.) led the offensive outburst by collecting three hits, scoring three runs, and knocking in two RBIs. Bryant compiled a .556 batting average and a 1.222 slugging percentage as she was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

    The Friars will be in Clearwater, Fla. next weekend to play in the USF Under Armour Invitational where they will play in five games versus Illinois, Florida A&M, Iona, Towson and Kent State. Providence will host the Fairfield Stags on Saturday, March 24 in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m to open its home schedule.
