Softball Set For Midweek Doubleheader Against Bethune Cookman

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

    The Providence College softball team will play a doubleheader against Bethune Cookman on Wed., March 6 in Daytona Beach, Fla.  The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the second game to immediately follow.

    During last season, the two teams met with the Friars falling 13-2 and 4-2 against Bethune.  Current-senior Stephanie Kiesel (Ramona, Calif.) led the team on offense with two hits and two RBI in both games against Bethune Cookman last season.

    Softball Falls To Bethune-Cookman In Doubleheader
    The Providence College softball team was defeated in a doubleheader at Bethune-Cookman, 13-2, 4-2, Wednesday night in Daytona Beach Florida.

    The Friars played in the USF Under Armour Invitational last weekend where they went 1-4 with an extra innings win over Quinnipiac, 5-2. Senior Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) was brought in to pinch hit in the ninth inning and hit a homerun to bring in two runs and put the Friars up 5-2 headed into the bottom of the inning.  Providence gave up one hit before three consecutive batters were put out to seal the victory.  Freshman Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and recording four strikeouts.

    The Friars will remain in Florida this weekend to play in the USF Under Armour Classic in Clearwater, Fla., where they will play games versus Saint Joseph’s, SIUE, Loyola Chicago, Brigham Young and Tennessee Tech.  Providence will host the Yale Bulldogs on Wed., March 20 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. to open its home schedule.
