Softball Travels To Pacific Louisville Slugger Tournament

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team traveled out to Stockton, Calif. for the Pacific University Louisville Slugger Tournament on Thursday, March 1. The team will play five games over the three-day tournament on March 2-4. On the first day, the team will take on San Jose State at 2:00 p.m. ET before facing Pacific at 6:30 p.m. ET. The Friars will take on San Jose again on Saturday, March 3 at 3:15 p.m. ET before finishing up the day against Pacific at 7:45 p.m. ET. Providence will then play its final game of the tournament against Wagner on Sunday, March 4 at 1:00 p.m. ET.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE:
The Friars have started the season with a record of 3-7. They are coming off of the UNF Osprey Tournament in which they went 2-3.

Providence has employed a well balanced offense to this point in the season. Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.), Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.), and Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) are all tied for the team lead in hits with eight. Compton leads the team in batting average with .286 and Veler leads the team in doubles (two) and RBI (five).

Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and Miranda Trinidad (La Habra, Calif.) have been the two leading pitchers for the Friars. Ramirez tops the pitching staff with a 2.21 ERA, 14 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .250. Ramirez was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for her performance during the UNF Osprey Tournament, where she went 1-1 with a 0.00 ERA and seven strikeouts in 14.2 innings of work. Trinidad is second on the team in ERA (2.55), innings pitcher (22.0) and strikeouts (12).

SCOUTING SAN JOSE STATE:
The San Jose State Spartans have started the season with a record of 9-7.

Cassidy Clark leads the Spartans with a.408 batting average, 20 hits, and three doubles. Madison Aurin has been the power bat for the Spartans with 14 hits, four home runs and 18 RBI.

Caroline Bowman has been the ace of the San Jose pitching staff. Bowman has started seven games, has a 6-0 record, a 3.41 ERA and holds batters to a .296 batting average. Desi Severance has pitched in eight games in relief of starters. Severance has a 2-1 record with a 1.71 ERA.

SCOUTING PACIFIC:
The Pacific Tigers have started the season with a 6-9 record.

Talli Shepherd leads the Tigers with a .434 batting average and 23 hits. Sydney Lahners is second on the team with a .368 batting average and leads the team with five home runs and 14 RBI.

Marissa Young is the top pitcher for Pacific with a 2-1 record, a 4.71 ERA.

SCOUTING WAGNER:
The Wagner Seahawks have started the season with a 2-3 record.

Jessica Carlucci leads the team with a .429 batting average, one home run and three RBI. The Seahawks also have four players with a .333 batting average.

Arielle Koerber leads the Wagner pitching staff. In three starts, Koerber has a 2-1 record, a 1.75 ERA, two complete games, five strikeouts and holds opponents to a .222 batting average.

ON DECK:
After the Lousiville Slugger Tournament, the Friars travel to Northridge, Calif. to take on CSUN for a doubleheader on March 6.
