The Providence College softball team (2-3) continues its season on Fri., March 1 in Clearwater, Fla. at the USF Under Armour Invitational. The Friars will play five games in three days, opening with a pair of games on Friday versus Central Michigan and Loyola Marymount. On Sat., March 2, the Friars take on Quinnipiac and Florida Gulf Coast. Then on Sun., March 3, the Friars play their final game of the tournament against Illinois.
Following the tournament, the Friars will stay in Florida to take on Bethune Cookman in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. on Wed., March 6 at Daytona Beach.
The Friars opened the year at the Florida Atlantic “Strike-Out Cancer” Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. where they went 2-3. The Friars collected wins over Connecticut (2-1) and Northern Illinois (13-7). Sophomore Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas) led the team in their two victories, recording a .400 batting average on six hits in 15 at bats over the weekend. She also registered one double, one triple, two homeruns and seven RBI, landing her on the BIG EAST Honor Roll on Feb. 25.
The Friars will remain in Florida the following weekend to play in the USF Under Armour Classic where they will play games versus Saint Joseph’s, SIUE, Loyola Chicago, Brigham Young and Tennessee Tech. Providence will host the Yale Bulldogs on Wed., March 20 in a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. to open its home schedule.
