Three Softball Players Named To College Sports Madness Preseason All-BIG EAST Team

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - College Sports Madness Softball named junior infielder Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) and sophomore outfielder Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) to its 2014 BIG EAST Preseason All-Conference First Team, while sophomore pitcher Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass) was named to the Second Team as it was announced on Tuesday (Feb. 4).

    Players are chosen by the staff at College Sports Madness, who choose the top players in college softball. Players are expected to make significant contributions to their team in the upcoming season.

    Last season, Baldassari was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Year by College Sports Madness. She started all 52 games, batting .341 and registering a team-high 62 hits and 42 runs scored. Baldassari also finished in the BIG EAST's top-10 in runs scored (sixth), hits (sixth), stolen bases (third, 22), at bats (fourth, 182), and steal attempts (third, 25).

    College Sports Madness tabbed Dederick to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. The infielder started all 52 games at first base last season. She recorded a team-high in RBI (36), doubles (15), on-base percentage (.424) and walks (19). Dederick finished fifth in the BIG EAST in doubles.

    Last season Amos appeared in 31 games, starting 18 and pitching a complete game 14 times. Her 143.2 innings pitched was second on the team along with her 71 strikeouts.

    Providence opens its season on Friday, Feb. 14 at the Florida Atlantic "Strike-Out Cancer" Tournament against LIU Brooklyn and South Carolina. The games are scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. ET and 1:00 p.m. ET, respectively.
