PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team a split non-conference doubleheader at Brown University on Tuesday afternoon. The Bears posted a 7-3 win in the first game, however, the Friars bounced back to win the second contest, 1-0.

In the first game, the Bears scored all their seven runs in the fourth inning en route to a 7-3 win. The Bears went around the batting order and recorded six hits in the fourth. Amy Baxter, who was the second base runner in the inning, when she singled, eventually capped off the scoring in the inning when she hit another single to drive in the seventh run. The Friars cut the lead to 7-2 in the fifth inning on an RBI groundout by sophomore Mary Rose Sheehy (Woodbridge, Conn.) and an RBI single by senior Rachel Bartholomew (Aliso Viejo, Calif.). Sheehy belted a home run in the seventh inning to make the score, 7-3, but the Friars could not get any closer.

In the second game, sophomore Jennifer Maccio (Huntington Station, N.Y.) pitched a complete game shutout to lead the Friars to a 1-0 triumph over the Bears. Maccio allowed just three hits over seven innings and struck out two batters as she improved to 8-5. The Friars scored the only run as Sheehy crossed the plate after an error.

With the split, the Friars moved to 23-23 overall, while the Bears fell to 10-33. PC will close out the regular season on Thursday, May 3 with a single game at Boston College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
