Providence Softball Tops CCSU

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College softball team played a single game against the Central Connecticut Blue Devils on Tuesday, May 1. Providence defeated the Blue Devils 8-6 to improve to 13-29 on the season.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:
-CCSU started the scoring in the top of the firs, taking a 1-0 lead.
- Mackensie Compton (Langhorne, Pa.) did not let the lead last long as she hit a three-run homerun in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead.
- Molly McGarry (Edina, Minn.) kept the scoring going in the bottom of the first when she hit a double to center to score Paige Mulry (West Roxbury, Mass.) and make the score 4-3.
- The Blue Devils scored three runs in the top of the second to tie the game at 4-4.
- Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) started the scoring in the bottom of the fourth by hitting a single to score Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) and make the score 5-4.
- Compton pushed another run across by hitting a sacrifice fly to score Julia Murphy (Pittsfield, Mass.) and make the score 6-4.
- Mulry scored hit an RBI single to score Veler, making the score 7-4.
- McGarry kept the scoring in the bottom of the fourth going when she hit a single to score Mulry and put Providence up 8-4.
- CCSU scored two runs in the top of the sixth to cut into the Providence lead and make it 8-6.
- Providence held on to win the game 8-6.
- Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) pitched six innings for Providence. She did not allow an earned run and struck out eight batters.
- Mulry went 3-4 on the day with three singles.

ON DECK:
Providence hosts DePaul for a three-game series on May 5 and 6.
