Softball Defeated By Notre Dame

    PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Notre Dame, 14-2, Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference game at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I. Seniors Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.), Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) were honored prior to the game.

    The Fighting Irish scored a single run in the second and third inning to take a 2-0 lead. Notre Dame then erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to increase its lead to 10-0. Dani Miller capped off the fourth inning with a grand slam. The Friars got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as junior Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.) singled down the right field line to drive in two runs and cut the lead to 10-2. Notre Dame added four runs in the fifth inning, including a three-run home run by Alexa Maldonado, her second home run of the day.

    The Friars are back in action at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 when they host Boston College at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I.
