SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Seton Hall, 1-0, 5-0, in a BIG EAST double header on Sunday, April 27.

Despite a strong pitching performance by PC's Melissa Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Seton Hall scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to capture the first game of the double header, 1-0. Katie Pierce's base hit drove in Caitlin White for the lone run of the game. On the mound, the Pirates' Christina Shanko pitched a complete game shutout, as she allowed five hits and struckout six batters to improve to 18-3. Peterson pitched six plus innings for the Friars and posted seven strikeouts to move to 8-3.

In the second game, the Pirates scored the only run they would need in the first inning as they went on to a 5-0 victory. Seton Hall added another run in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth on Laura Taylor's 12th home run of the season. Pirates' pitcher Megan Meyer pitched a four-hit shutout and struck out six batters as she improved to 13-7. At the plate, Van Dusen batted two for three. Sophomore Nicole Bartholomew came in relief and posted three strikeouts in over one inning of action.

Providence fell to 16-18 overall and 1-11 in the BIG EAST, while Seton Hall improved to 32-11 overall and 10-6 in league play. Providence returns to action on Tuesday, April 29 at Brown University.
