    BOSTON, Mass. - The Providence College softball team was defeated at Boston University, 5-3 and 3-1, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader in Boston, Mass.

    In game one, Providence rallied in the seventh inning but fell, 5-3. Boston University took a 1-0 first inning lead on a sacrifice fly by Megan Volpano. Volpano also drove in a single run in the third and fifth inning as the Terriers increased their lead to 4-0. BU added a run sixth inning on a home run by Emily Roesch. In the seventh inning, sophomore Kaitlyn Duval (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove in PC's first run on a fielder's choice. Classmate Marie Flego(Little Spring, N.J.) then hit a two-run single to cut BU's lead to 5-3. Flego had two hits in game one. However, the Friars could not get any closer.

    In the second game, the Friars scored in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead on an RBI single by freshman Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.). The Terriers evened the game in the bottom of the first inning on Volpano's sacrifice fly. Chelsea O'Connor gave BU the lead (2-1) for good in the fourth inning when she hit a solo home run. Whitney Tuthill pitched a complete game and struck out six batters. Sophomore Emily O'Keefe(Southington, Conn.) started for the Friars and allowed three runs in five and two-thirds innings of action. Dederick had three hits for the Friars, while Flego finished with two.

    The Friars are back in action beginning at noon on Saturday, April 28 when they play a home BIG EAST Conference doubleheader against Notre Dame.
