Softball Drops Doubleheader Against Butler

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The Providence Softball team played a doubleheader against the Butler Bulldogs on Saturday, April 21. The Friars dropped the first game, 2-0, before losing the second game, 5-4. Providence now has a record of 10-26 on the season and is 4-9 in BIG EAST play.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
- The first game of the doubleheader turned into a pitching duel between Christina Ramirez (Niceville, Fla.) and Butler’s Kaitlin Doud. Both pitchers only allowed two hits each in the game.
- The only scoring in the game happened in the bottom of the second with the Bulldogs scoring two runs.
- Ramirez was credited with the loss and dropped to 5-10 on the season.
- Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) tallied two hits in the loss for Providence.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
-The second game of featured more offense, with the final score being 5-4 in Butler’s favor.
- The Bulldogs struck first, scoring a run in the bottom of the second.
- Providence responded with a four-run inning in the top of the third.
- Brittney Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.) broke the game open with a three-run home run that scored Lee, and Julianne Rurka (Warrenville, Ill.) and made the score 3-1.
- Crista San Antonio (East Meadow, N.Y.) hit an RBI single to score Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) and make the score 4-1 in the top of the third as well.
- Butler cut into the lead by scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score, 4-2.
- The Bulldogs ended up winning the game on a walk off three-run homerun in the bottom of the seventh.
- Megan McCune (Orange, Calif.) got the start on the mound for Providence. She pitched 4.0 innings, allowing two runs and five hits. Olivia Sprofera (Mahwah, N.J.) pitched 1.1 innings of relief and allowed only one hit.
- Ramirez came into the game to try and record a save for the Friars. She pitched 1.0 innings and allowed the homerun. She was credited with the loss and moved to 5-11 on the season.

The Friars finish off the three-game series with a single game against the Bulldogs on Sunday, April 22 at 12:00 p.m.
