Sophomore Danielle Deraney drove in one run for the Friars

 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Villanova, 7-1, on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Danielle Deraney (Shrewsbury, Mass.) drove in PC's only run on a double down the left field line in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) scored on the play after doubling herself. Baldassari was 3-for-4 on the day.

Villanova opened the game with four quick runs on four hits to take a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. The Wildcats again score in the top of the second, by a solo home run.

The Wildcats capped off their scoring in the fifth with two runs on two hits to bring its lead to 7-0.

Providence got on the board in the bottom of the seventh with a Deraney double that drove in Baldassari with two outs.

Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) took the loss for the Friars. Kate Poppe recorded the win for Villanova allowing no runs and four hits in five innings of work.

The Friars remain home to face cross-town rival Brown on Wednesday, April 23. The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
