PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College softball team was defeated by Seton Hall, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in a BIG EAST Conference game at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I.
Seton Hall's Brooke Tull pitched a complete-game shutout as she yielded just four hits. Providence junior Corinne Clauss (Davie, Fla.) also had a strong game as she pitched all seven innings, allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out six batters.
Seton Hall (20-22, 2-9 BIG EAST) scored the only run it would need in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Meredith Henze. The Pirates added another run in the fourth inning to complete the scoring. Providence (14-25, 5-8 BIG EAST) had a chance to get on the board in the fifth inning as the Friars loaded the bases with one out, but could not convert. Freshman Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.) led the Friars with two hits and recorded her fifth multiple-hit game.
The Friars are back in action at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17 when they make a short trip to Smithfield, R.I. to face Bryant University.
