PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Villanova, 11-0 (5 inn.), 9-2, on Sunday, April 13 in a BIG EAST double header at Raymond Field.

In the first game, the Wildcats belted 13 hits, including four home runs en route to the win. Ricci Lugo batted three for three with three RBI to lead the offensive attack. Overall, she batted six for seven with four RBI and five runs. Pitchers Theresa Hornick and Shannon Williams combined for the shutout as they allowed just four hits to Friar batters.

In the second game, Villanova jumped ahead to a 9-0 lead after four innings before the Friars got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Junior pitcher Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) went two for three with a run scored while senior Sarah Morin (Westerly, R.I.) and sophomore Jaclyn Treveloni (Ashland, Mass.) each drove in a run. Kari Koller hit her second home run of the afternoon as the Wildcats scored six runs in the third inning to break open the game. Koller also added two doubles in the second game as Villanova (14-8-1, 5-2 BIG EAST) had a combined 27 hits in the double header. Hornick earned the win on the mound for the Wildcats.

Providence (10-12, 0-6 BIG EAST) will host Rutgers in a BIG EAST double header on Monday, April 14 at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I.
