Softball Swept By St. John's In BIG EAST Conference Doubleheader

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by St. John's, 2-0 in game one and 8-2 in game, in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader at PC's Raymond Field in Providence.

In the first game, St. John's scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Red Storm started the inning with a double and single. Jillian Sandoval scored from second on an infield error and Ann Raab drove in Tiffany Howerton from third with a double. Providence College's Melissa Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif.) pitched a complete game and allowed eight hits and two runs, just one earned, while striking out one batter.

In the second game, St. John's erupted for eight runs - including five runs in the third inning - to defeated the Friars, 8-2. Red Storm pitcher Meghan Allman pitched a complete game and allowed four hits, two earned runs and struck out five. The Friars scored their two runs in the second and fifth innings. The first run was scored when Peterson singled to center, driving in pinch-runner Renee Chevalier (West Boylson, Mass.). Sophomore secondbaseman Kalena Petersen (Mission Viejo, Calif.) scored PC's second run on a wild pitch.

Providence hosts Seton Hall University on Sunday, April 14th in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader. The first game begins at 12 noon on PC's Raymond Field.
