Softball Defeated By No. 18 USF In BIG EAST Doubleheader

    TAMPA, Fla. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by No. 18 USF in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon in Tampa, Fla. The Bulls recorded 5-0 wins in both games.

    In game one, USF (38-5, 11-0 BIG EAST) scored two unearned runs in the first inning en route to a 5-0 victory. Sara Nevins pitched a complete game shutout, allowed two hits and struck out 12 batters to lead the Bulls. For Providence (13-23, 4-6 BIG EAST), senior pitcher Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) also yielded just two hits in six innings of action. Senior Jen Abrams(Reading, Mass.) had both of PC's hits.

    In game two, the Bulls jumped ahead, 1-0, in the first inning and went on to win, 5-0. USF added two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to seal its 18th consecutive victory.

    The Friars are back in action on Saturday, April 14 when they face Seton Hall in a conference doubleheader, beginning at noon.
