Louisville defeated the Friars, 17-6, in five innings in the teams' second game of the day.
The Cardinals scored one run in the first inning off a hard hit single driven into centerfield with a runner on second, but the Friars were able to post three runs of their own in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Kiara Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) singled to get on base, and advanced to second off an error made by Louisville's centerfielder. She advanced to third off a sacrifice bunt hit by sophomore Megan Rollings (Marysville, Wash.), and was brought home by senior Jessie Bryant (Marlborough, Mass.). Sophomore Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) was next to get on base with a single to leftfield. Bryant and Dederick both would score before the end of the inning (3-1).
The Friars gave up three runs in the top of the second off a three-run homerun hit by the Cardinal's leftfielder, Jasmine Smithson-Willett, but then brought in two runs off singles from Bryant and sophomore Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.).
Louisville went on to score 13 runs over the following three innings. Dederick hit a homerun in bottom of the fifth.
Junior Emily O'Keefe (Southington, Conn.) tallied the loss in game two after giving up eight runs in 2.2 innings pitched. O'Keefe was relieved by Harrell who finished the third inning, and pitched in the fourth, allowing seven runs. Amos pitched the final inning.
