CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Providence College softball team was defeated at Boston College, 3-0 and 7-1, in a non-conference double header in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
In game one, the Eagles scored three times in the fifth inning en route to a 3-0 win. Amy Tunstall hit a three-run home run to seal BC's game one win. Taylor Peyton and Morgan Kidd combined to shutout the Friars. Kidd earned the win as she pitched five innings, allowed three hits and struck out six batters. For the Friars, junior Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.) pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out one batter.
In game two, Tunstall hit a two-run home run in the first inning to lead the Eagles to a 7-1 victory. The Friars scored first to take a 1-0 lead after half an inning on an RBI single by junior Christy Becker (Atlanta, Ga.). Dani Weir hit a solo home run, while Gemma Ypparila belted a two-run longball to give the Eagles a 5-1 edge after three innings. BC added single runs in the fourth and fifth innings to seal the victory. Allison Gage pitched a complete game and allowed one run on five hits and struck out three PC batters. Freshman Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) finished with two hits in the second game for the Friars, while junior Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) had one hit and one run.
The Friars are back in action on Thursday, April 9 when they face Villanova in a BIG EAST Conference double header in Villanova, Pa.
