PISCATAWAY, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was swept in a BIG EAST Conference softball doubleheader by Rutgers University, 7-2 and 3-0, on Saturday, April 6th in Piscataway, N.J.

In the first game, the Friars (8-22 overall/1-5 BIG EAST) scored both runs on a sixth-inning, two-run home run by freshman infielder Jaclyn Treveloni (Ashland, Mass.). The homer scored sophomore Cori Van Dusen (Riverside, Calif.) and was Treveloni's team-leading third round-tripper. Freshman Nicole Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) took the loss on the mound for the Friars, pitching four-and-a-third innings and allowing nine hits, six runs and five earned runs. Her record fell to 6-9 with the loss.

In the second game, the Scarlet Knights (9-15 overall/4-2 BIG EAST) blanked the Friars, 3-0. Rutgers' starter Leah Black pitched a complete-game shutout and allowed just three hits, two of which were totalled by PC's Bartholomew.

The Friars return to action on Sunday when they play a BIG EAST doubleheader at Villanova University beginning at 12 noon.
