SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Syracuse, 6-0, 3-0, in a BIG EAST Conference double header Saturday afternoon in Syracuse, N.Y. The double header was scheduled to be played on Friday, April 4, but after four-and-one-half innings of the first game play was suspended because of inclement weather. The Orange improved to 12-17 overall and 5-1 in league play. Providence fell to 15-14-1 overall and 1-3 in league action. The Orange posted a 6-0 win in the first game, which was continuation from yesterday's contest that was postponed because of rain with Syracuse leading 5-0 and four-and-one-half inning. The Orange scored five runs in the second inning highlighted by Hallie Gibbs who hit a two-run home run. Syracuse added a run in the fifth inning to seal the win. Chanel Roehner pitched six innings for the Orange and allowed just four hits to improve to 6-5. PC sophomore Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.), who came into the game without yielding a run in the last 28.1 innings, took the loss. In the second game, the Orange broke a 0-0 deadlock with two runs in the fourth inning en route to a 3-0 victory. Lindsay Wasek tripled to drive in one run, while Nicole Miller singled to score Wasek. The Orange added another run in the sixth inning to complete the sweep. Brittany Gardner earned the win as she pitched six innings and struck out seven batters. The Friars are back in action on Sunday, April 6 when they face Pittsburgh in a BIG EAST double header in Pittsburgh, Pa.
