    NOTRE DAME, Ind. - The Providence College softball team (19-8, 4-4) dropped a BIG EAST doubleheader at Notre (18-10, 4-0) Dame on Sunday, April 2. Notre Dame captured the first game, 4-1, and also took the nightcap, 8-0.

    In the first game, the Fighting Irish took a 3-0 lead in the third inning as they belted four hits. Alexandra Kotcheff, Mallorie Lenn and Katie Laing each drove in one run in the inning. UND pitcher Heather Booth held the Friars to three hits. Senior Elena Romero (Chula Vista, Calif.) had one of the three hits to increase her hit streak to 15 games. The Friars' lone run came in the fourth inning as junior Rachel Bartholomew (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) scored on an error. PC junior Sara Surosky (Elmira, N.Y.) took the loss as she allowed four runs on nine hits and struck out two batters in six innings of action.

    Notre Dame continued its strong pitching in the second game, allowing just two hits in an 8-0 win over the Friars. Brittney Bargar allowed two hits in five innings, while Kenya Fuemmeler held PC hitless in one inning of action. The game was scoreless after three innings, but the Fighting Irish scored five runs in the fourth inning as Laing drove in two runs with a double. UND added two runs in the fifth inning and one more in the sixth to complete the scoring.

    Sophomore Sam Pittman (San Diego, Calif.) and junior Katie Ross (Middleboro, Mass.) accounted for PC's two hits. Romero went 0-for-2 as her impressive hit streak ended at 15 games.

    The Friars are back in action on Tuesday, April 4 when they travel to Hanover, N.H. for a doubleheader at Dartmouth.
