SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Seton Hall in a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon in South Orange, N.J. The Pirates posted a 7-0 win in the first game and a 1-0 decision in the second contest.

In the first game, Seton Hall (6-21, 2-4 BIG EAST) scored the only runs it needed in the first inning as five Pirates crossed the plate. The Pirates added two more runs in the third inning on a single by Allison Gengler. Three SHU pitchers combined to shutout Providence (10-12, 1-5 BIG EAST) in first game. Maura Lund started the game and pitched two innings, before giving way to Ashley Constantini, who threw two and two-thirds innings and was credited with the win. Kim Schweitzer took over the rest of the way and allowed just one hit. PC senior catcher Rachel Bartholomew (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) accounted for both PC hits.

Schweitzer pitched all seven innings in the second game and allowed no runs on seven hits to lead the Pirates to a 1-0 win. SHU scored the game's only run in the seventh inning when Danielle Steinseifzer singled to centerfield to plate Christina Sammarco. The Friars had seven hits, including two by Bartholomew, who extended her hit streak to five games. Freshman pitcher Danielle Bertolette (Temecula, Calif.) pitched six strong innings and allowed just one run on five hits.
