 PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team lost a double header to DePaul on Saturday, March 29 in its first BIG EAST series at home. The Friars fell in the first game, 7-0, and the second game, 12-0.

In the first game, both teams headed into the seventh inning with the score knotted at zero. The Blue Demons (20-8, 4-0) struck in the top of the seventh, with seven runs on eight hits, to take the victory. Prior to the seventh PC (1-17, 0-5) held DePaul to five hits. The team also got out of jams in the top of the third (two runners left on) and in the top of the fourth (bases loaded).

Junior Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif,), sophomore Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) and junior Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) gathered singles for the Friars. Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) took the loss and Kristen Verdun picked up the win for DePaul.

DePaul won the second game, 12-0. The Blue Demons scored two runs in the top of the first on one hit. DePaul again scored in the top of the third, putting up five runs on six hits. The Blue Demons followed with another five-run inning in the fourth en route to their 12-0 victory.

Sophomore Danielle Deraney (Shrewsbury, Mass.), junior Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas.) and Harrell notched singles for PC. Sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) pitched in the loss while Mary Connolly recorded the win for DePaul.

The Friars will play again tomorrow against DePaul to finish the home BIG EAST series. First pitch will be at 11:00 a.m.
