    Providence, R.I. - The Providence College softball team (12-17, 1-2 BIG EAST) defeated Fairfield, 2-0, on Tuesday, March 29. With the win, the Friars improve to 4-3 on the road.

    Providence broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning. Junior Jen Abrams (Reading, Mass.) notched a triple to center field and was driven in by the next batter, junior Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.). Huber reached base on a single to the pitcher and scored Abrams to tally her 14th RBI of the season.

    In the seventh inning, the Friars extended their lead to 2-0. Huber reached base with a single up the middle and senior Justine Stratton (Fresno, Calif.) drove her in with a double to right field. On the day, Huber went three-for-three at the plate with a run scored and three stolen bases.

    Junior Alicia Grosso (Baldwin, N.Y.) was in the pitcher's circle for the Friars and earned victory to improve to 8-9. Grosso pitched seven innings, gave up no runs, allowed six hits and struck out six.

    The Friars are back in action on Thursday, March 31, when they host Hartford at 3:30 p.m. at PC's Raymond Field.
