PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College softball team (9-16, 0-3) fell to DePaul in its final game of their weekend series on Sunday, March 24 in Providence, R.I. by a 13-8 score in eight innings. Depaul improves their record to 16-12 overall and 3-0 in the BIG EAST.
The Friars turned a triple play in the second inning after allowing two batters to reach base on a walk and error, respectively. Sophomore Megan Rollings (Marysville, Wash.) started the play by snagging a line drive, allowing the Friars to pick off both Blue Demons for all three outs.
DePaul had four runs in the top of the fourth inning on one walk and four hits, including three singles. The Friars would come up with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the score, 4-4. The Friars manufactured their runs using three hits and stealing two bases, including a theft of home by freshman Kacy Williams (Midlothian, Texas). Fellow freshman Kiarra Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) would score the tying run on a wild pitch.
DePaul would retake the lead in the fifth inning (6-4) following back-to-back homeruns and tack on one more in the following inning to take a 7-4 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rollings hit a two-run homerun to pull the Friars within one (7-6) after Baldassari was able to reach first on a passed ball after striking out. Sophomore Shanelle Harrell (Irvine, Calif.) would tie the score at seven on a solo shot three batters later to send the game into extra innings.
In the eighth inning, DePaul would score six runs on seven hits, including a three-run homerun to take the lead, 13-7. The Friars would see one run cross the plate but ultimately fall, 13-8.

(Malden, Mass.; 5-11) would take the loss for the Friars.
The Friars will play their next games against Boston University on Thursday, March 28 at Raymond Field in Providence, R.I. The doubleheader will begin at 3:00 p.m.
