 SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. - The Providence College softball team was defeated in a double header, 5-0 and 11-3, at Seton Hall on Saturday, March 22, in its first BIG EAST action of the season.

In the first game, Seton Hall struck first in the bottom of the first inning with three runs on four hits. Seton Hall scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the sixth to further seal a win, with a 5-0 final score. Jen Metzger pitched five scoreless innings for the Pirates, allowing just two hits. Lauren Fischer recorded the save, going two innings, allowing one hit. Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) took the loss for the Friars, pitching six innings and striking out four.

Seton Hall won the second game, 11-3. The Friars put up two quick runs in the top of the first when freshman McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.) hit a two-run home run to left field. The Pirates were quick to respond, scoring four runs in the second followed by three runs in the third and fourth. Providence homered again in the top of the fifth, this time junior Sarah Kitterman (Houston, Texas) hit a solo shot to center. Seton Hall closed out the game in the fifth by scoring one run. Danielle Destaso recorded the win for Seton Hall and sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) took the loss for Providence.

The Friars will play again tomorrow against Seton Hall to finish the series in South Orange, N.J. First pitch will be at noon.
