     CLEARWATER, Fla. - The Providence College softball team was defeated by Central Connecticut State, 10-2 on Sunday, March 16 in Clearwater, Fla.

    The Blue Devils jumped out quick in the bottom of the first, putting up five runs on four hits.

    Providence tallied a run in the top of the third when junior Kristie Dederick (Camarillo, Calif.) singled, driving in freshman McKall Miller (Ashburn, Va.), who had previously doubled (5-1).

    CSSU score runs in the fourth (2), fifth (1) and sixth (2) to seal its 10-2 victory.

    The Friars scored one more run in the top of the sixth when junior Kelsi Luttrell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) singled to drive in junior Lauren Paiva (Middletown, R.I.) to make the score 10-2, in favor of the Blue Devils. Providence put together four hits in the inning with Paiva, senior Marie Flego (Little Silver, N.J.), sophomore Kiki Baldassari (Denville, N.J.) and Luttrell all connecting on singles.

    Freshman Taylor Huntly (Las Vegas, Nev.) took the loss and Laura Messina picked up the win for CCSU.

    The Friars have concluded tournament play and will next compete in New Haven, Conn. at Yale for a double header on Wednesday, March 19. Start times are set for 2:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
