    CLEARWATER - The Providence College softball team fell to Iona (4-1) and Buffalo (6-2) on Friday, March 14 in Clearwater, Fla. in its first day at the USF Under Armour Invitational. Sophomore Kiki Baldassari(Denville, N.J.) led the Friars' offensively finishing the day 3-for-7 at the plate.

    Providence dropped its first game of the day to Iona, 4-1, in an afternoon match-up. Baldassari helped the Friars take a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a passed ball. Iona evened the game at 1-1 in the fourth inning, before tallying three runs in the fifth to secure the win. Sophomore Kiara Amos (Malden, Mass.) started the game on the mound for the Friars and recorded four and third innings and tallied two strikeouts. Junior Shanelle Harrell(Irvine, Calif.) finished the game in the circle for the Friars. Baldassari led the Friars at the plate with two hits (2-for-4).

    In Providence's second game of the day, the Friars were defeated by Buffalo, 6-2. Buffalo jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning. Buffalo added two runs in the third to hold a 4-0 advantage. Providence rallied its bats in the fourth inning with Baldissari and junior Lauren Paiva (Middletown, R.I.) working their way on base to start the inning. The two Friars reached home to pull Providence within two of Buffalo, 4-2, but that was as close as they would get. Buffalo added two runs in the fifth to secure victory. Freshman Taylor Huntly(Las Vegas, Nev.) threw a complete game for the Friars.

    The Friars will play again tomorrow against Maine and Florida A&M. Game times are set for 11:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
