Softball Defeated In Two Games At FIU Combat Classic

    MIAMI, Fla. - The Providence College softball team competed in the second day of the FIU Combat Classic on Saturday, February 13 in Miami, Fla. Providence was defeated by North Florida, 4-0, in the first game and then fell to North Carolina State, 4-2.

    In the first game, North Florida's Devyn Findley held the Friars to four hits in seven innings and struck out 14 batters to lead her team to a 4-0 victory. PC junior Kathryn Sullivan (Langrangeville, N.Y.) also pitched a complete game. She allowed three earned runs on six hits and struck out three batters.

    In the second game, North Carolina State defeated Providence, 4-2. Trailing 2-0 in the seventh inning, the Friars scored twice with two outs to even the score. Senior Katelyn Revens (Warwick, R.I.) scored an unearned run, while Michelle Huber (Dana Point, Calif.) hit an RBI single to score junior Jenna Garcia (Morro Bay, Calif.) and make the score, 2-2. However, in the bottom of the seventh inning Kristine Bechtholdt hit a two-run home run to seal the win for the Wolfpack.

    Revens and Huber each had two hits to lead PC. On the pitcher's circle, senior Julie Fowler (Langley, B.C.) pitched over six innings, allowed three earned runs and struck out one batter.

    Providence (0-3) will compete in the final game of the FIU Combat Classic on Sunday, February 13 at 9:00 a.m. against Southern Illinois.
