PROVIDENCE, R.I.-- The Providence College women's soccer team recently received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for excellence in academics. The award is granted to teams that have an NCAA Division 1 Academic Progress Rate in the top 10 percent of their specific sport.

"One of our overriding goals in the athletic department is a 100% graduation rate for all student athletes." said Providence Athletic Director Bob Driscoll. "The women's soccer team is a prime example of our vision and dedication to the educational aspect of competing at Providence College."

This is the second year in a row that the squad has received the award. "Our student-athletes excel on the field as well as any in the entire nation, but their achievements in the classroom are first and foremost. I am very proud of their accomplishments." said Head Coach Jim McGirr.
