Women’s Soccer Seniors Invited To NEWISA Senior Bowl

Nov. 29, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The New England Women’s Intercollegiate Soccer Association (NEWISA) announced the 2017 senior student-athletes invited to the NEWISA Senior Bowl on Saturday, Dec. 2. Providence College women’s soccer seniors Madison Doherty (Peabody, Mass.) and Christina Klaum (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) will represent the Friars.

Doherty, a crucial component of the Friars’ defensive line, helped the team to seven shutouts on season and kept BIG EAST opponents to two-or-less goals during regular season play.

Klaum finished in a three-way tie for third on the Friars squad in the points category with six on two goals and two assists. Most notably, the midfielder tallied the go-ahead goal in the Friars victory over then-No. 15 Georgetown on Oct. 15 in Providence, R.I. (1-0).

In 2017, the Friars finished with a 10-8-2 overall record and a 5-3-1 mark in the BIG EAST Conference during the 2017 season. The Friars finished third in conference play and advanced to the BIG EAST Tournament for the fourth-consecutive year.

The NEWISA Senior Bowl game is set for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 2 at Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass.
