The Providence College women's soccer team continues BIG EAST play on Thursday, Oct. 17 when the Friars play host to Xavier on the new turf field located at the Ray Treacy Track in Providence, R.I. The game marks the first meeting between the two teams since Xavier joined the BIG EAST. The Friars enter Thursday afternoon's tilt with an overall record of 4-7-3 (1-4-0 BIG EAST).
Providence last competed on Saturday, Oct. 12 where the Friars were edged by Butler in overtime, 2-1. Butler took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute with a goal from Mary Allen. Sophomore Catherine Zimmerman (Madison, N.J.) notched her fourth goal of the season in the 61st minute to even the game at one. Zimmerman broke through Butler's defense and beat the Bulldog's keeper on a breakaway. Regulation expired at a 1-1 tie and the match was sent to overtime. Butler notched the game-winner in the 92nd minute.
Sophomore Kathryn Hiller (Dartmouth, Mass.) stands as the Friars leading scorer with 12 points on five goals and two assists. Zimmerman ranks second with 10 points on four goals and two assists.
Junior keeper Jessica Goudreault (Sherborn, Mass.) has started each of the last four conference games in goal for the Friars. On the season, Goudreault has played 459:06 minutes in goal and tallied 26 saves for a .743 save percentage.
SCOUTING XAVIER: Xavier enters Thursday's game with an overall record of 8-5-1 (1-4-0 BIG EAST). Tori Doss tops Xavier's scoring column with five points on three goals and five assists. Teammates Tori Doss, Maggie Hare and Catherine Allon have each tallied three goals on the season. Katie Markesbery has recorded 1161:39 minutes in goal where she has tallied 78 saves for a .788 save percentage. Markesbery owns a record of 7-5-1.
